Lok Sabha passed Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 naming Amaravati sole capital

According to a PIB release dated 2026-04-01, the Lok Sabha passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, conferring legal sanctity on Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh. The release also states that 91 major infrastructure projects worth over ₹56,000 crore are already underway in Amaravati and that the amendment is expected to accelerate investments and employment.
Why it matters
A legally designated sole capital can reduce administrative uncertainty and help execute and coordinate long-duration capital-city infrastructure and investment plans anchored in Amaravati.
