Mazagon Dock signed MoU for greenfield shipyard at Dugarajapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL) signed a memorandum of understanding with National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park-AP (NSHIP-AP) to invest about ₹15,000 crore over the next five to seven years to develop a greenfield shipyard at Dugarajapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The article says the planned shipyard has an initial design capacity of 1.2 million gross tonnes per year and would build commercial vessels including tankers, bulk carriers, container ships and LNG carriers.
Why it matters
If executed, this would add planned commercial shipbuilding capacity at Dugarajapatnam and anchor a larger shipbuilding cluster being developed through NSHIP-AP.
