Cabinet approved Rajahmundry–Visakhapatnam 3rd & 4th rail lines in Andhra Pradesh

The Union Cabinet approved laying the third and fourth railway lines between Rajahmundry (Nidadavolu) and Visakhapatnam (Duvvada) in Andhra Pradesh at an estimated cost of ₹9,889 crore. The project covers a 198-km corridor (total track length 458 km) and includes a 4.3-km rail bridge over the Godavari, a 2.67-km viaduct and three bypasses, as part of the Howrah–Chennai High Density Network quadrupling initiative.
Why it matters
The additional lines are intended to ease congestion on a corridor operating near 130% capacity and improve rail connectivity for port-linked freight and passenger movement along the east coast.
