ISRO launches EOS-05 Earth observation satellite on GSLV-F17 from Sriharikota

ISRO launched the GSLV-F17/EOS-05 mission from the Second Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota at 2:55 a.m. on September 4, 2026. The GSLV placed the 2,367 kg EOS-05 Earth observation satellite into its intended Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit about 18 minutes after liftoff; ISRO said initial satellite health checks indicated normal operation and solar panel deployment, with orbit-raising to geosynchronous orbit to follow.
Why it matters
EOS-05 is described as India’s first imaging satellite intended to operate from geosynchronous orbit, enabling Earth observation from a high, fixed orbital position once operationalised.
