Bayer says its DirectAcres direct-seeded rice program reached over 81,000 ha in 2026

Bayer said it expanded its DirectAcres Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) initiative to more than 81,000 hectares (over 200,000 acres) in 2026. The company said the program is operating across Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Why it matters
Scaling DSR adoption can reduce water use and labour needs in rice cultivation compared with conventional transplanting, depending on local conditions.
