CCEA approved ₹9,450 crore rail multitracking projects across four states

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved four Indian Railways multitracking projects worth about ₹9,450 crore across West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The projects comprise about 410 km of additional lines: Kharagpur–Bhadrak (173 km, 4th line), Bhadrak–Haridaspur (75 km, 4th line), Gummidipundi–Gudur (90 km, 3rd & 4th lines) and Cuttack–Paradeep (72 km, 3rd & 4th lines), with completion planned by 2030–31.
Why it matters
If executed as planned, the added track capacity is intended to reduce congestion and enable additional freight movement (stated as 76 million tonnes per annum), improving logistics efficiency on these corridors.
