India’s renewable electricity generation (excl large hydro) reached 101 BU in Q2 FY27

30 Sept 2026

India generated 101 billion units (BU) of electricity from renewable energy sources excluding large hydro in Q2 FY27 (July–September 2026), crossing 100 BU in a quarter for the first time, according to a CREA commentary cited by BusinessLine. Combined non-fossil generation (renewables, large hydro and nuclear) was reported at a record 177 BU in the same quarter, up from 163 BU in Q2 FY26; solar also hit a daily record of 705 million units on September 30 and made up 10% of total generation for the first time in Q2 FY27.

Why it matters

Higher renewable generation changes the actual supply mix of India’s power system, affecting how much electricity demand can be met without fossil fuels during peak periods.
