DEA screening committee approved ₹5,000 crore KfW external assistance for Telangana-CRUTI

The Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) screening committee approved the Telangana government’s Telangana Climate Resilient Urban Transformation Initiative (Telangana-CRUTI) for ₹5,000 crore (€500 million) in external assistance from Germany’s development bank KfW. The programme includes Warangal’s comprehensive sewerage and wastewater management project, including an underground sewerage network and wastewater treatment upgrades aimed at reuse of treated wastewater.
Why it matters
Approval for external assistance is a key step toward financing sewerage and wastewater treatment upgrades that can expand sanitation coverage and enable wastewater reuse in Warangal and other participating urban local bodies.
