Centre says production of 57 medical devices has started under the medical devices PLI

India’s Department of Pharmaceuticals said production of 57 medical devices has commenced under the medical devices Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. The devices cited include MRI machines, CT scanners and heart valves, along with cath labs, linear accelerators, C-arms, mammography machines, ultrasound systems and anaesthesia machines.
Why it matters
Starting domestic production of previously imported high-end devices can increase local supply capacity and reduce dependence on imports for critical medical technology.
