Esri India launched GeoSARAL, a Linux-based desktop GIS platform, at Aerocity in New Delhi. The company said the application layer was developed in India using an SDK, and that it has already been provided to some customers to try as a first version.
Why it matters
A Linux-supported, locally developed GIS desktop tool could make it easier for government and institutional users to adopt GIS while keeping geospatial data usage on local systems, including offline use.
