Researchers publish MutAIverse GenAI platform to link tumour DNA adducts to exposures

Researchers from IIIT-Delhi, CSIR-IGIB and NIPER reported a generative-AI platform called “MutAIverse” that backtracks from tumour DNA adductomics/mass-spectrometry data to likely environmental chemical exposures. They said it was experimentally validated using biopsy samples from 27 head-and-neck cancer patients in Guwahati and, in that test set, linked patterns to smokeless-tobacco exposure; the work is described in a paper in the Journal of Cheminformatics.
Why it matters
If it holds up in broader use, the approach could help move cancer workups beyond diagnosis toward identifying likely causative exposures, supporting prevention and screening for at-risk populations.
