Education Ministry approved five Centres of Excellence for classical languages

India’s Ministry of Education approved setting up five Centres of Excellence for studies in Classical Assamese, Bengali, Pali, Marathi and Prakrit. The centres are to be established at Tezpur University (Assamese), Visva-Bharati University (Bengali), Central University of Odisha (Pali), Central University of Gujarat (Prakrit), and Deccan College Post Graduate and Research Institute, Pune (Marathi).
Why it matters
These centres are intended to strengthen academic research, digitisation, preservation and dissemination work for these classical languages.
