UK recognises India’s NABCB accreditation for CBAM-related verification

India’s National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) has been recognised by the UK for the verification side of the UK’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), according to Commerce Ministry officials. The officials also said the UK has accepted carbon payments made in India under the CCTS framework to be offset against payments due in the UK.
Why it matters
Recognition of India’s accreditation and acceptance of domestic carbon payments can reduce compliance friction and duplication of verification/costs for Indian exporters to the UK ahead of the UK CBAM start in 2027.
