Union Cabinet approved ₹23,731 crore National Circular Bioenergy Scheme (GOBARdhan)

India’s Union Cabinet approved the National Circular Bioenergy Scheme – GOBARdhan with an outlay of ₹23,731 crore, to run until 2036, to support growth of the compressed biogas (CBG) ecosystem. As described in the government statement, the scheme includes measures such as assured offtake, administered pricing, capital subsidies, pipeline infrastructure support and easier access to finance for CBG production from biomass and organic waste streams.
Why it matters
A funded national scheme and administered pricing framework can reduce revenue uncertainty for CBG projects, enabling more plants to be financed and connected into the gas grid for use as blended fuel and piped gas.
