India raises permitted 5G base station EMF power density limit to 10 W/m²

India has increased electromagnetic field (EMF) limits for mobile networks, doubling the permitted power density for a 5G base tower station (BTS) to 10 watt per square metre from 5 watt per square metre, according to people aware of the matter cited by ET Telecom. The revised EMF/radiation rules are reported to come into effect next month.
Why it matters
Higher EMF limits can allow 5G signals to cover larger areas per site, potentially reducing the number of towers needed and lowering incremental network expansion costs for operators.
