Election Commission stopped physical hearings for certain SIR voter cases
26 Sept 2026
On 2026-09-26, the Election Commission of India announced measures for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, including stopping physical hearings for voters flagged as “unmapped” or having “logical discrepancies” in their enumeration forms and instead having booth-level officers visit such voters. It also said it will immediately launch a special drive for enrolment of people left out during/after SIR and clarified that the Form 6 declaration is mandatory only during the current SIR process (not after it).
Why it matters
This changes how voter roll corrections and new enrolments are handled during and after the SIR, potentially affecting accessibility and throughput of electoral-roll updates.
