Union Cabinet approved raising mandatory EPFO wage ceiling to ₹25,000/month

The Union Cabinet approved raising the wage ceiling for mandatory coverage under the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to ₹25,000 per month from ₹15,000. The Hindu reports the new ceiling will be implemented from September 17, 2026, and the government expects over 51 lakh additional employees to come under mandatory EPFO coverage.
Why it matters
This expands access to provident fund savings, pension coverage under EPS, and insurance under EDLI for additional workers who were previously outside mandatory EPFO coverage due to the lower wage ceiling.
