Google agreed to report flagged child sexual abuse material directly to Indian authorities

22 Sept 2026

Google said it has agreed to report content flagged as child sexual abuse material directly to Indian authorities, rather than routing such reports first through the U.S.-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). Reuters reported this change follows discussions with the government of India and comes after a similar shift announced by Meta.

Why it matters

Direct reporting can reduce delays in getting actionable leads to domestic law enforcement in cases where a child may be in immediate danger.
