Foundation stone laid for port-based e-methanol plant at Deendayal Port, Kandla

Kandla, Gujarat28 Sept 2026

The foundation stone was laid for a port-based e-methanol production facility at Deendayal Port Authority (Kandla) as a joint initiative of Deendayal Port Authority and Assam Petro-Chemicals Ltd. The project is planned in two phases to reach 150 tonnes per day of e-methanol capacity, with Phase I (50 tpd) targeted for completion by January 2027 and Phase II (additional 100 tpd) targeted for March 2027.

Why it matters

If completed as planned, it would create a domestic source of low-carbon shipping fuel at an Indian port, enabling supply of e-methanol to vessels calling at Kandla.
