Micron announced plan to scale up semiconductor assembly and test output at Sanand in 2027

Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said Micron will scale up its semiconductor assembly and testing facility at Sanand, Gujarat by “multifold” next year, aiming to move from assembling and testing tens of millions of chips this year to hundreds of millions next year. He also said Micron began commercial production at the Sanand unit earlier in 2026 and is shipping finished DRAM and NAND products from Gujarat to customers globally.
Why it matters
If the scale-up happens as stated, it would significantly increase India-based output of packaged memory chips and expand the country’s role in the global semiconductor supply chain.
