Union Cabinet approved setting up the Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority (ITLA)

6 Oct 2026

India’s Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority (ITLA) as a special purpose vehicle to act as an apex body for integrated transport and logistics planning, research, project appraisal and monitoring, policy support, and data analytics. The authority will appraise and monitor Government of India transport/infrastructure projects costing ₹500 crore and above and is tasked with preparing a National Transport Master Plan and building a National Transport Data Repository using datasets such as GSTN e-way bills, FASTag, Vahan and GPS-based systems.

Why it matters

A single coordinating authority and shared national transport data repository can reduce fragmented planning across modes and improve execution oversight for large transport projects, supporting lower logistics costs.
