SKUAST-Kashmir developed Shalimar-4 and Shalimar-5 rice varieties with ~7.2 t/ha yields

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Kashmir’s Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops (Khudwani) reported two newly developed rice varieties—Shalimar-4 and Shalimar-5—recording yields of about 7.2 tonnes per hectare in Kashmir. The centre said the varieties mature earlier than conventional varieties (enabling harvest between Sept. 15 and Sept. 25) and are resistant to rice blast disease.
