Google agreed to report child sexual abuse material directly to Indian authorities
Bengaluru, Karnataka22 Sept 2026
Google said it has agreed to report content flagged as child sexual abuse material directly to Indian authorities, instead of routing such reports first through the U.S.-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). The change was described by a Google spokesperson as part of ongoing discussions with the Government of India, and follows a similar move by Meta reported the prior week.
Why it matters
Direct reporting could reduce delays in passing actionable leads to Indian law enforcement in cases where children may be in immediate danger.
