Nava Sankalpa Bakery and mobile bakery units launched at Bengaluru Central Prison

The Karnataka Prisons and Correctional Services Department, in collaboration with the HCL Foundation, inaugurated the ‘Nava Sankalpa Bakery’ and flagged off ‘Nava Sankalpa Bakery on Wheels’ at the Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara (Bengaluru). The mobile bakery units are intended to sell bakery products at court complexes and bus stations across Bengaluru, and inmates completing bakery training are to receive certificates.
Why it matters
It creates a prison-based production and sales channel while providing vocational training that can support inmates’ rehabilitation and livelihood after release.
