Karnataka’s state Cabinet approved the Sustainable Data Centre Policy 2026–31, described as a ₹1,300.45-crore framework. The policy targets 1 GW of cumulative data-centre IT load by 2031 and covers data-centre parks, edge facilities, connectivity, R&D, skills and incentives, with emphasis on renewable power, advanced cooling and water efficiency.
Why it matters
The approval sets a state-level framework intended to enable growth in data-centre capacity needed for AI and digital services while addressing electricity and water constraints.
