Railways to bring entire Mangaluru railway area under South Western Railway

The Railways decided to rationalise zone boundaries by bringing the entire Mangaluru railway area under South Western Railway, transferring it to the Mysore Division. The ministry said this will remove multiple interchange points between Southern Railway, South Western Railway and Konkan Railway on approaches to Mangaluru, which had been causing operational delays and congestion.
Why it matters
A single-zone operational boundary can reduce interchange conflicts and improve train control and punctuality on a traffic-critical stretch serving Mangaluru.
