Karnataka approved the Karnataka Marine Biotechnology Policy 2026–2031 at a state Cabinet meeting held in Mangaluru. The policy proposes setting up the Karnataka Institute of Marine Biotechnology and Blue Economy (KIMBE) and outlines a five-year budget of ₹120 crore, including investments in KIMBE, Marine Biotechnology Zones, a Seaweed Value Addition PLI, and a pilot blue carbon certification programme.
