Administrative clearance ordered for ₹9.25-crore road reconstruction near Vattavada, Idukki
The Kerala State Human Rights Commission directed authorities to ensure road connectivity for tribal settlements in Idukki district and ordered immediate administrative clearance for a ₹9.25-crore project to reconstruct the Chilanthiyar–Ullavayal road near Vattavada, which was destroyed in 2024 flash floods. The Commission also directed officials to make roads linking tribal settlements motorable and to complete ongoing work on the Chilanthiyar–Valsapettykudy stretch for which agreements have been signed, while asking for a proposal to be submitted for the 16-km Chilanthiyar–Valsapettykudy–Kanthalloor road for Union government approval.
Administrative clearance and expedited approvals are a prerequisite for reconstruction and motorable access, affecting emergency transport and routine access to healthcare and services for remote tribal settlements.
