Work begins on 27-km sewage pipeline network under Kochi sewerage project

Work has begun on a 27-km sewage pipeline network in Kochi as part of a Kerala Water Authority (KWA) sewerage treatment project that also includes a 5 MLD sewage treatment plant and a separate 17-km pipeline network. The project is estimated at ₹185 crore and is expected to be completed within two years; KWA said it will re-float the tender for the 5 MLD STP after no bidder qualified.
Why it matters
The pipeline network is intended to connect household sewage in parts of Kochi to a treatment system, enabling proper collection and treatment instead of on-site disposal problems.
