Kozhikode’s Njeliyanparamba biomining project reclaimed about 2.5 acres

Kozhikode Corporation officials said biomining and bioremediation at the Njeliyanparamba dumping site (started March 2026) has treated over 20,000 cubic metres of legacy waste and reclaimed around 2.5 acres of land as of August 18, 2026. The project targets clearing about 2.33 lakh cubic metres of legacy waste across the 12.6-acre site by July 2027.
Why it matters
Reclaiming land and processing legacy waste reduces ongoing pollution impacts and frees space for planned waste-treatment infrastructure and other public uses once remediation is completed.
