IIT Palakkad team develops fluorescent sensors to measure heparin levels faster

Researchers at IIT Palakkad reported developing fluorescent chemosensors that can quickly measure heparin levels in blood by detecting changes in a yellow-green fluorescence signal. The team said the sensors can selectively detect heparin in complex samples such as human serum, but further development and testing are needed before clinical use.
Why it matters
If developed into point-of-care diagnostics, this could enable faster and simpler monitoring of anticoagulant dosing during procedures and treatments where heparin levels must be tightly controlled.
