Kerala Health Department set up district teams to monitor medicine stocks in govt hospitals

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala4 Oct 2026

Kerala’s Health Department introduced a district-level medicine availability monitoring mechanism, constituting a monitoring team in every district to verify shortage complaints, inspect hospital pharmacies and stores, and take corrective measures before shortages occur. The teams are to conduct direct inspections, enable redistribution of medicines between hospitals when needed, and submit weekly reports to the Director of Health Services or Director of Medical Education, as applicable.

Why it matters

Regular on-site stock verification and reporting can help detect and address impending medicine shortages earlier, improving continuity of essential drug availability in government hospitals.
