Project Cheetah population in India reported at 52 animals as of Sept 2026

Officials said India’s cheetah population reached 52 as Project Cheetah completed four years on September 17, 2026, including 32 cubs born in the country. The report said 49 cheetahs were in Kuno National Park and three were in Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary, both in Madhya Pradesh, with cheetahs also released into open forest areas and monitored across an interstate landscape spanning 12 districts.
