New caecilian species Gegeneophis chandgadi described from Chandgad, Maharashtra

Researchers reported the discovery and description of a new subterranean, legless amphibian (caecilian) species, named Gegeneophis chandgadi, from Buzawade in Chandgad, Kolhapur region of Maharashtra’s northern Western Ghats. The finding was published in a scientific paper describing the species as distinct from known Gegeneophis taxa, based on molecular and morphological analyses.
