Vande Bharat sleeper prototype manufacturing underway at Marathwada Rail Coach Factory

Manufacturing is underway at the upgraded Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Latur, Maharashtra, for the first Vande Bharat sleeper train prototype, according to an RVNL official. The expected rollout deadline for the prototype has been extended to March 31, 2027 (FY2026-27).
Why it matters
A completed prototype is a required milestone before the 120 planned Vande Bharat sleeper trainsets can move toward series production and deployment.
