Railways approved ₹493 crore for Mukutban–Gadchandur 38.21-km rail line in Maharashtra

The Ministry of Railways approved a ₹493 crore project to construct a 38.21-km new rail line between Mukutban (Yavatmal district) and Gadchandur (Chandrapur district) in Maharashtra under South Central Railway. The Detailed Project Report estimates the line will handle 6.08 million tonnes per annum of freight traffic after commissioning and support two MEMU trains in each direction daily.
Why it matters
If built and commissioned as planned, this line would add a new freight-capable route to serve coal/cement and other industrial clusters while offering an alternative to congested existing corridors such as Wardha–Manikgarh and Balharshah–Nagpur.
