BIS announced ₹38.72 crore project to modernise 21 cotton testing labs

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) announced a ₹38.72-crore project to modernise and upgrade 21 laboratories across key cotton-producing states to establish high-precision cotton testing facilities. BIS also stated that 14 HVI testers and 28 trash analysers have been installed and commissioned across 13 laboratories (11 under the Textiles Committee and 2 under the Cotton Corporation of India).
Why it matters
Expanded and modernised cotton testing capacity can improve standardised quality measurement across the cotton-to-textile supply chain, supporting producers and downstream textile manufacturing quality control.
