Indian Navy commissions third ASW shallow water craft, Mangrol

Mumbai, Maharashtra12 Oct 2026

The Indian Navy commissioned Mangrol, its third anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft (ASW-SWC). The vessel was built by Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi and is intended for detecting and countering submarine threats in coastal and shallow waters.

Why it matters

Commissioning adds a new coastal anti-submarine warfare platform to the Navy, improving protection of ports, harbours and coastal approaches where larger warships have limitations.
