Indian Navy commissions deep-sea diving vessel INS Nipun in Mumbai

The Indian Navy commissioned INS Nipun, a Nistar-class Diving Support Vessel (DSV), at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on August 31, 2026. Built by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd, the vessel is designed to support diving operations up to 300 metres and provide rapid submarine rescue, and can also be deployed for disaster relief and humanitarian operations.
Why it matters
Commissioning adds an operational platform for deep-sea diving and submarine rescue, expanding the Navy’s ability to respond to underwater emergencies and support relief operations.
