Maharashtra approved ₹2,975 crore ADB borrowing for PRAGATI health reform project
The Maharashtra Cabinet approved the Public Health Department’s proposal to obtain a ₹2,975 crore loan from the Asian Development Bank for the PRAGATI (Primary Healthcare Reimagined with Advanced Governance and Accessible Technology Integration) project (2026–2031), and approved ₹1,275 crore as the State’s share to be provided in phases through the budget. The project proposes new district hospitals (500-bed each in Kolhapur and Nanded; 300-bed each in Nagpur and Latur) and a 200-bed specialty referral hospital for Pune district, and is expected to create around 2,430 posts.
If implemented as proposed, the financing approval enables planned hospital capacity additions and health-system integration aimed at improving diagnosis, referrals, continuity of care, and digital governance in Maharashtra’s public health services.
