Borivali–Virar 5th and 6th railway lines project reaches ~30% completion
Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation’s Borivali–Virar fifth and sixth lines project (26 km, sanctioned cost ₹2,184 crore) has crossed roughly 30% physical completion, with earthwork, bridge works, and relocation of railway structures progressing at multiple locations including Dahisar, Mira Road, Bhayander, Naigaon, Nallasopara and Vasai Road. Project updates in the report also note that 11.929 hectares of salt-pan land at Umelman (Vasai) has been handed over, while remaining land acquisition continues and forest/mangrove clearances have been secured.
Adding two additional lines is intended to increase capacity and reduce conflicts between suburban and other train services on one of Mumbai’s most congested suburban corridors, improving reliability for commuters once finished.
