NPCI launched instant card-issuing Android ATMs at Global Fintech Fest 2026

At Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai, NPCI launched open-source Android ATMs designed to function as digital banking units and instantly issue RuPay cards and merchant UPI QR codes. The ATMs are being trialled by nine lenders (including SBI, Bank of Baroda and Slice Small Finance Bank) alongside manufacturers Hitachi Payment Services, Perto India and Vortex Engineering, according to the report.
Why it matters
If adopted at scale, instant issuance and faster onboarding can reduce friction for customers and merchants to access formal digital payments and banking services, including in transit hubs and rural areas.
