PhonePe and Visa unveiled tap-to-pay and QR-based cross-border payments in India

PhonePe partnered with Visa to launch three cardless payment solutions: Tap to Pay for domestic in-store transactions, Cross Border Scan to Pay for overseas payments via Visa-supported QR codes, and Smart Accept to let small merchants accept contactless card payments directly on their smartphones. The partnership was unveiled at Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai; Tap to Pay rollout begins in phases from September 9 for Android users, while Cross Border Scan to Pay is expected to roll out soon across 14 international markets.
