Indian Railways operated its first double-stack long-haul container train from Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) to CONCOR’s GCT terminal at Varnama (Vadodara division). The train departed at 7 PM on 2026-08-21, running about 422 km and carrying a combined 360 TEUs using two coupled double-stack rakes.
Why it matters
Higher-capacity rail evacuation from JNPT can move more containers per train movement, potentially reducing port/terminal dwell time and freight costs while shifting cargo from diesel road transport to electric rail.
