Oriana Power receives MSEDCL letters of award for 900 MW/1,800 MWh BESS in Maharashtra

Oriana Power Ltd said it has secured two Letters of Award from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) to build grid-scale battery energy storage systems totaling 900 MW/1,800 MWh across Maharashtra, with an aggregate project value of about ₹3,870 crore. The awards are for 15-year Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreements starting from the projects’ commercial operation dates, and include expected viability gap funding of ₹324 crore (based on current cost assessments).
Why it matters
If built and commissioned, these storage systems would add substantial grid flexibility in Maharashtra, helping manage variability from renewable generation and improve peak-power availability.
