India added 3 GW of solar open access capacity in Q2 2026, Mercom reports

Mercom India’s Q2 & H1 2026 India Solar Open Access Market Report said India added 3 GW of solar open access capacity in Q2 2026, the highest-ever quarterly addition. The report also said solar open access installations reached nearly 6 GW in H1 2026, up 42% year-over-year versus 4 GW in H1 2025, with Rajasthan contributing 25% of Q2 additions.
Why it matters
Higher open-access solar capacity increases the amount of renewable electricity available to commercial and industrial consumers outside traditional utility procurement.
