Renewables reached an all-time high 19.94% share of India’s power generation in July 2026
Coal Ministry data cited by The Hindu BusinessLine shows renewable energy sources (solar, wind, biomass and others) accounted for 19.94% of India’s cumulative power generation mix in July 2026, an all-time monthly high (vs 19.02% in June 2026 and 16.93% in July 2025). The share of non-fossil sources (renewables, hydro and nuclear) rose to 33.14% in July 2026 from 30% in June 2026, while power demand was about 171 billion units and total generation about 182 billion units for the month, per Crisil Intelligence cited in the report.
A higher share of renewables and other non-fossil sources in the generation mix indicates more electricity demand is being met with lower-carbon sources, reducing reliance on coal for the same level of power output.
