India cut basic customs duty on imported crude edible oils

24 Sept 2026

On September 24, 2026, the Union government reduced the Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on major imported crude edible oils. BCD on crude sunflower oil was cut from 10% to nil, and BCD on crude soybean oil and crude palm oil was cut from 10% to 5%; the government also reduced BCD on respective refined edible oils while maintaining a 19.25% duty differential between crude and refined oils.

Why it matters

Lower import duties can reduce landed costs for edible oils, which the government said is intended to help moderate domestic edible oil prices and inflationary pressures while still incentivising domestic refining via the crude–refined duty differential.
