India revised windfall export levies: diesel cut to ₹8.50/litre; petrol raised to ₹2.50

16 Oct 2026

India’s Finance Ministry revised windfall taxes (export levies) on petroleum products effective October 16, 2026. The export levy on diesel was cut to ₹8.50 per litre from ₹16, while the export levy on petrol was increased to ₹2.50 per litre from ₹0.50; the levy on aviation turbine fuel remained unchanged at ₹10.50 per litre, and domestic excise duties were unchanged.

Why it matters

Changing export levies alters incentives to export versus sell domestically, affecting domestic availability and export economics for refined petroleum products.
