Cheaper domestic gas scheme approved to incentivise billed PNG household connections

India's oil ministry said a scheme was approved on Tuesday to provide city gas distribution (CGD) entities additional lower-priced domestically produced APM gas for each incremental billed domestic PNG connection achieved during a defined performance period. The scheme is to take effect from 2026-09-01 and will be implemented in two tranches spanning six months.
Why it matters
By lowering CGDs' gas-sourcing costs (substituting costlier LNG used for transport CNG), the scheme is intended to make it financially easier to activate currently installed-but-inactive household PNG meters and reduce reliance on imported LPG for cooking.
